Custom names for text fields in PWA

Andy

Is there a way to have the custom names show up in the view for Project
Server 2002? I made a custom view but my text fields are showing up as text
1, text 2, etc. In my project they are named Owner, Lead, Internal Support,
etc. They loose there meaning without the correct titles.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Andy

Did you use custom enterprise fields for Owner, Lead, etc? If so, did you
actually rename the custom field? Have you republished each of the projects
in the Project Server database using Collaborate - Publish - All
Information? Let us know.

Thanks for the response Dale,

I have republished all information, but it didn't solve the problem. I am
using MS Project 2002 Standard, and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't
believe that enterprise options are available.

Thanks,
Andy

Did your Project Server administrator create these fields in the Enterprise
Global file? Or did you open a project and click Tools - Customize - Fields
and create them there? Let us know.

Dale,

I initially just renamed the fields in the project file via right click,
insert column, Field Name: Text 1, Title: Owner. For most of the projects
that resources need to view in PWA, they only need to see task name,
duration, start, finish, notes. This is the first were they have needed to
see various text fields. I went into manage views and added a view including
all of the text fields that I wanted visible. This is how I landed in the
predicament that I now face. For all intensive purposes I am the Project
Server admin, as our IS department has limited knowledge on the subject and I
am the first in the company to get it up and running. I have been able to
trouble shoot most of my problems with the help of this newsgroup.

Thanks,
Andy

When you added a Title to the field, you were not renaming the field.
Instead, the Title of a field is like a "nickname" for that field. So, that
is the first cause of your problems. I would recommend that you abandon
this approach immediately and begin using enterprise fields for this
purpose. Hope this helps.

Hi Andy,

I don't think PWA is available from Project Standard. Sure you don't mean
Project Pro?

If you are the Project Server administrator, you should be using Microsoft
Project 2002 Professional to utilize all enterprise features. As I stated
earlier, you need to create these fields as enterprise custom fields in the
Enterprise Global file to solve your problem. Hope this helps.
