Custom Properties in Word

I can almost swear that Word 2003 has made the whole process of
defining and using custom property attributes more difficult than
previous versions of Word. Is that true? I mean I don't recollect
creating custom properties being as tedious as this:

File->Properties->Custom
Name: [name]
Type: Text
Value: [value]
Add

Similarly using custom properties were a lot less tedious than:
Insert->Field->DocProperty->[custom-property-attribute]

Does anyone have macros for these?
