Custom properties - variable/fixed list

Hi,

I am a new user to Visio. I have set up a structure diagram and have now
learnt that I can add custom properties.

I've managed to add a new property, but want to amend an existing one
(department) so I can only choose from a list. I can add the list to one
position at a time, but I'd like to be able to make the change to all of the
boxes in one go.

Is there a way I can update a variable/fixed list for my existing structure
diagram without doing it box by box?

And, which is best to use variable or fixed?

If you know all of the choices, then fixed list is the way to go.
Have you created a Master for your boxes? If so, then you should edit the
Master in the local document stencil.
If you didn't create a Master, then you will need to edit each shape.
