Custom RBS per Project?

Rajan

Hi,

How do you have a specific RBS for a Project vs Enterprise-wide?.

For example:

I have a resource which I would like to allocate across the multiple
projects, but under different roles.
I have a resource John Doe in Project A, B and C. In Project A I want him as
Team Lead, in Project B I want him as Developer/Team Member, etc.

What is the correct way I should set this up in Project Server & in Project
Professional?

GOAL: Is to have RBS per Project or similar?

Thanks in Advance,
Rajan

You cannot specify an RBS value for a resource on a project by project
basis. Sorry.

Yes, but it could involve a large number of Groups/Categories, and a lot of
Administrator attention to keep everything set right. Basically, you would
be defining Categories for some users on a project-by-project basis.

hi reid,
in this case, if a resource is member of 2 groups/categories, is there any
chance for clash between the assignments?

Certainly there is potential for conflict. You do have to know what you're
doing.

Your solution, as I envision it, would involve Categories with specific
projects included (as opposed to rules-based project inclusion). Therefore,
conflict potential would depend on your accuracy in assigning projects to
Categories.

Unless you use "Deny" permission settings, your only risk if you make a
mistake is that a user would have too many permissions rather than not enough.
