Custom Toolbar/Formatting Macros w/ multiple users

Hi,

I've created a custom toolbar that has 3 macros that format fonts 3
different colors. I've placed the custom toolbar into the project file
through organizer (as well as in global.mpt). I've copied the 3 modules to
the file as well as leaving them in global.mpt.

My problem is that even though I've done that when someone else opens it
they have no custom toolbar and when they try to run the macros they get an
error "The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online
help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable
macros."

If I go to their desk and copy the macro from the file to global the macros
work... but at no point is the custom toolbar available.

If I didn't have 20 people in multiple locations I could just run around and
create the toolbar for them but seems to me there should be a way to attach
these to the file not just my PC.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Tara,
Boy this type of issue goes back a few years for me but here is what I
remember. In order for a custom toolbar to be available, it needs to be
in the Global associated with the user's installation of Project. In
other words, in their Global or in the server Global if they are running
Project off a server.

Macros on the other hand can work in one of two ways - either loaded
into the Global or from a file. If the macro is only in a file (i.e. not
in the Global) then that file must be open in order to access the macro.

If the users are getting a "macro not available" type of message, their
security setting is probably set to high. To check this, from Project go
to Tools/Macro/Security. A setting of "low" will let any macro run and a
setting of "medium" will give a warning message. Higher settings may or
may not allow a macro to run depending on digital signature. You can
read more about that in the help file.

Hope this helps.

Thank you... at least I'm not losing my mind... If I email them my
global.mpt and have them replace theirs will that solve my problem? That's a
whole lot easier to explain than to try to get people to open my file and use
the organizer...

Thoughts?
Thanks!

It will work to get the macro on their machines, but it will also
overwrite any customizations they've done on their machine. If did that
to me, I say bad things about you! :)

GOOD point... I'll give them both options and make sure they realize the
possibility... though honestly? I don't think my users are big on
customization... I'm happy to get them to change their percent complete
every week... :)

Thanks again!!!

Tara,
Actually I would opt for the Organizer approach. It is quite easy to put
together a simple set of instructions for transferring a custom toolbar
and modules from a Project file to the Global, I've written those
instructions many times for users and never had a problem. And doing so
will circumvent the issue Dave brought up about overwriting any custom
items users may already have in their existing Global. Look at it this
way, if your users can't understand a simple set of instructions on how
to use the Organizer, then they probably shouldn't be using Project.

Thanks John...

They probably shouldn't be using Project but it is what it is... so I'll
attempt the instructions... just in case one of them out there has done
something I might overwrite...

Thanks so much for your ideas & help!!! This is the first time I've used
the board here and have found it quick, easy & very useful!!

Cheers

Tara,
For timid users Project can be very frustrating. A goodly amount of
training and help from a seasoned user is invaluable. Coach your people
and give them all the help they need.

You're very welcome. That's that kind of feedback we love to see. It
lets us know we are doing the right thing.
