Custom Toolbar Still Disappears (Renamed .dat file, checked for Outlook running in background)

Hello All,

I have a COM addin for Outlook and on some machines, the custom toolbar &
menu item seems to disappear from time to time.

I have renamed the .dat file and also checked for a hidden instance of
Outlook running in the background but the behavior continues.

The toolbars are created as "Temporary" which, in theory, should not affect
the toolbars during the actual session.

Any ideas?

Regards,

TC

Do you mean disappear as in "it is on the screen one second and disappears
the next moment"?
If you re-create the toolbar every time Outlook loads, what would extend.dat
have to do with it?

is your plugin properly shutdown? (Outlook is not still in memory when
launching another copy).

If yes, i think (but no sure) it can prevent some method in your plugin
not being called. (perhaps the OnStartupComplete).

First, to Dmitry:

As for the .dat file, I simply saw a posting regarding this file can become
corrupted and cause problems.

Yes, the toolbar is visible and then disappears on some machines. These
machines are not available to me as they are related to customers, etc.

Second to Sven,

Yes, we've checked for hidden instances of Outlook running in the background
and they do not exist. Something else is causing the behavior.

TC, are there any other add-ins running on those machines?
If so, set the temporary flag to false and check if it helped.

Best wishes,
Alex.

Hey Alex,

This is a good question. We're looking into this.

Does the presence of other addins affect custom toolbars even though they
are not related?

Why does setting the temporary flag to false have any effect? I am curious
because, according to documentation, this flag is supposed to only tell the
app / OS that the toolbar needs to be removed at the end of the session.

Thanks & Regards,

TC
