custom views - error message

I have used custom views extensively for setting up special views to
print but in certain spreadsheets it does not work. I receive a
message that says - "some view settings could not be applied".

It then does not display the area that I have set in that custom view
to be printed nor does it show the proper print settings etc.

I am at a loss to figure out what is causing this problem. I can find
very little on custom view settings in microsoft or on this site. If
someone can explain what the likely cause of this behavior is I would
be very appreciative.

UPDATE:
I found the answer to this problem on the excel general forum. I knew
that if a worksheet was protected the custom view feature would not
work however, I did not know that if _ANY_ worksheet in the workbook
was protected the custom views would not work in an unprotected
worksheet.

Do not understand the reason for this behavior but I turned off the
protection in the other worksheets of the workbook and now my custom
view settings for printing work.
