custom word count macro for word

Here is what I am searching for:

A macro which will count words in the document but exclude ones formatted a
certain way. For example it will count only the text that I wrote but
exclude everything formatted as "Quote". Is there such a beast?

I expect that such a custom count macro exists somewhere, but finding it,
that's another matter.

Might be easier if you take a shot at writing the macro yourself.

Should I assume that "Quote" is a style you have created? Or is "Quote"
simply all text that lies between quotation marks?
