Customers send pdf to insert into publication. Look awful. Fix?

After inserting using 'insert object', the pdf looks terrible, blurry as if
too low a resolution. The only way i have found to remedy that is to use a
screen capture while it is open in Acrobat Reader. How can i get these pdf
files into the publication looking good like they do when i open them in
Acrobat reader? What am I missing? Too many people use pdf files to transport
art for me not to be able to use them.

I've found that saving the PDF as a image file like jpg or png or tif works
best for me.
