customise navigation (notebook) pane

I would like to be able to customise the way that the items in the left-hand
Notebook navigation pane look. I have a rich hierarchy of section groups and
at present it is hard to distinguish between items at different levels in the
hierarchy - it would be good to have top-level section groups highlighted
more, or for lower level items in the hierarchy to be indented more. Is this
possible?

No.
The Navigation pabe can not be customized.
