Customised Fields - Date() and Refresh

Hi all,
I have written a formula for a traffic light process for a
customised Number field, and am getting some unexpected
results if I change Current Date.
I am comparing Baseline Start and Baseline Finish date
fields to current date - Date(), and/or % Completes.
When testing it, if I change Current Date in Tools/
Current Date it doesn't seem to change the processing
logic.
Similarly, Status Date changes also seem to be ignored.
What is Date().?? Is it Current Date?
I want to be able to set current date and produce the
traffic light view as at a reporting date.
Am I doing something wrong here? Am I using the right
field in the formula?
In addition, when changing values to test, it appears
Project (2002 Std) doesn't refresh the customised field in
a consistent way.
Have others noticed this, or again am I doing something
wrong; Calculation Mode is set to Automatic.
Would appreciate your advice.

Date() is the system date from your PC

[Current Date] is the =3Fcurrent=3F date found in the Project | Project
Information dialog

[Status Date] is the Status Date
