customised fields

I am trying to calculate rate of pipelaying based on hte
info created in a tracking gantt and data entered by hte
user.
I want to work out the 'metres of pipeline laid/day', one
as a target and th e other based on the actual time it
took. The time portion derives from the estimated and
actual columns and the distance is enters by hte user in a
separate column.
I am having a lot of trouble getting the formula to
display the correct value.
Does Project have a particular way of calculatin time
based on the date.
i'd also like to get the numbe displayed as "XX m/day" .

Hi Jack,

Could you give us a bit more information to allow us to assist you better?
You mention the "time portion" is from the estimated and actuals columns -
which columns are you using? Also what is the column used to enter the
distance which is user entered? What is the formula you have tried and in
which custom field did you enter the formula?
