customisednumbered list to pick up in TOC

Help! I want to use a customised numbered list (multi level) and have just
one heading typed ready for it to continue numbering as the person types. I
also want the TOC to automtically pick up just the FIRST LEVEL (Level 1) of
this customised numbered list. Any way of doing this? Thanks.

Yes. You will need to define styles for all the levels you intend to use and
link them to the numbering *exactly* as described in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html

Since the default TOC picks up three heading levels, you might be well
advised to include a properly configured TOC field in the template.
