CUSTOMISING CONTACT TEMPLATE

I read that it is possible to change the "Custom" field names in the template.
"The only custom additions are found in the fields at the bottom of the
contact window.

Is it possible to save these changes to the template so that the new field name is permanently available?

Thanks,

Gerald

If I'm understanding you, you want to change "custom 1" to something else?
AFAIK you can't change a field name.

A little more info on what you are trying to do would help.

You can't change the names of fields other than those that say "Custom
1", "Custom 2", etc. Click the underlined name itself and you can modify
the name.

I didn't realize that. Neat!

Thanks, Bill.

I actually found this myself with a little messing around. I was having trouble getting the changes to "stick". Now, all the new entries have this, but I expect I will have to manually modify existing records.

What would be really nice is to be able to change the column headers, but they seem to be locked. Do you know if this is possible?

Thanks again, Gerald

Hello Diane,

Thanks for responding.

Yes, it is "neat", but it underlines the fact that the degree of "customisation" available in Entourage Vs. Outlook is really lamentable.

Seems to me that neither Entourage nor Apple Address Book provide a degree of customisation that makes either particularly useful for anything but the most basic contact management. Believe it or not, I really don't care about the star sign of any of my business contacts, yet that is hard wired in!

Apple seems to have been pushing the Bento product, but all the reviews are very negative, so I have decided to avoid that for now. I'd be really pleased to hear of any other useful tools for basic contact management!

Thanks again, Gerald

I agree. They don't save birthdates for seniors that have a birthday older
than 1920 either.

Plaxo is a free web service that is helpful in managing/sharing contacts.
The pro version is free to Comcast users.

Categories in Entourage is probably the most useful way to manage your
contacts and create rules.

If you have an iPhone, be sure to check out this script that will get your
cell phone category in Entourage over to the Address Book groups.
