I am trying to cutsomise error messages generated from Office applications
(mainly Word).
I have been carrying out the steps described in the following article:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/ha011362701033.aspx?mode=print
Basically, we have hyperlinks to documents that point to a server that no
longer exists. We have tried to put a redirect in place, to force the URL to
be redirected to a new location, but the redirect is being intercepted by
Word, and the following error is being displayed:
"Unable to open http://path to document.doc. The internet site resports
that the item you requested cannot be found. (HTTP/1.0 404)" The dialogue
box has a single button with "OK" on it.
I was hoping to customise the error, to allow the user to connect to the
redirect and access the application.
However, I am unable to change the dialogue box of the "Unable to open...."
error message. I ahve tried updating the reqistry keys mentioned in the
article, but without any success. I have tried forcing all errors to a
webpage, and also a single error (code 196663) without success.
Has anyone managed to get this to work? Will the instructions in the
document work with all Error messages, or only those with links to websites
already.
Thanks for any help.
