Customising reports

I have an application which I distribute as a number of mde files. The users
want to be able to change reports layouts, just simple things like fonts,
margins, logos,etc. I tend to have to do it for them but then when I update
the application and redistribute the mde files I need to import all the
reports.
Is there any way to have the reports external to the mde files and is there
any way the ueser could change the reports themselves.
I was thinking of looking at some reporting program like crystal reports,
activex reports.

I guess you're looking for a more sophisticated answer than this, but why not
just give a certain group of users the right to modify (or create) reports
(or some of the reports) on their front-ends?

I guess the problem becomes, how to keep the end-user from having to rewrite
everything they've created each time that they update their front-end.

In order to edit the report they need access to the mdb version which means
they have access to the source code.
Yes there are problems with updating whoever modifies the reports.
