Customising Word 2001

C

cstroud

I have completed the long job of customising my Word 2001 menus and toolbars
on my work mac. I need the same setup for my home computer so I copied the
word settings (8) and (9) files from the Prferences/Microsoft folders onto
my home computer and it doesnt pick it up. I also transferred Microsoft
Office Settings (9) for good measure.

I cant find any other files that get modified on quit. Is there anyway I
can transfer the customising setup? It was easy in Word 5 cos the settings
file heldall the attributes.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

You should have also copied the "Normal.dot" template. For some obscure
reason, it's apparently stored in there.

Bernard is right, but there's another consideration. The Normal template is
prone to corruption and every once in a while, you will have to throw it out
to force Word to create a new, uncorrupted Normal. When that happens, you
will lose all your customizations. You can, of course, make backup copies
of Normal to revert to in case of corruption. But it is far preferable and
safer to make all of your customizations in a Custom template, not in your
Normal template.

I strongly recommend that you download a copy of Clive Huggans's "Bend Word
to Your Will" and read (at least) the sections on menu and toolbar
