Customize chart design & table

O

Ox

I have faced a problem of customizing the design of charts and tables. I have
developed a template which allows users to apply the predifined
settings/colours/fonts size/colours, etc, but table and chart is the issue.
If to save the chart as template, how do I allow others to use it? Why the
function of set as default does not work with table the way it does with
shapes?
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should be able to set a default chart format by creating a user defined
type of chart ( Chart Type > custom types > user defined) and setting as the
default.

Don't think you can set a user defined default table format but maybe
someone knows better.

In addition to what John said, note that the default chart must be set on
each computer.

User-defined charts are machine-specific, not presentation- or
template-specific. In other words, they (unfortunately) don't travel with
the template.

What I usually do is create a few slides with sample charts and tables and
instruct the user to copy those and change the data. I soooo wish PPT
handled this kind of thing better.

Thanks.
Always forgot to mention I use 2007 version. And some features especially
for developing templates for company are missing big time!

Ok, that is clear. So let me recap all your opinions...in 2007 version I
create a chart according to the required standards and save each chart (need
in total about 10) as template. To set as a default if I understand correctly
you can only one chart...
The next step is to send the presentation to others and they have to save
the charts as templates as well. Any other way? can I e.g. send the template
folder to others?

Tnx

PPT 2007 does have chart templates. They don't travel with the PPT file, and
there are some bugs and issues with them, but they are there. (I feel like
they're just not quite ready for prime-time for the people who really need
such features, though.)

Anyway, make a chart, format it the way you want, then save it as a chart
template using the button on the ribbon. Send the chart template files to
the users with instrux to paste them into the same place you saved them.
(When you use the save as chart template button, it should take you to the
correct folder automatically.) Then when users see the Insert Chart dialog,
they have a folder for Chart Templates -- they click there and choose from
the templates you supplied them with.

Nothing like it for tables, though.

2007 is different from previous versions. You can save chart templates and
send those to the users.

You cannot set their default chart.

I would still provide them with sample slides, as the chart templates don't
respond to theme color and font changes.
