customize current view

I open "Customize Current View" and go to "Fields". I want to add/remove
some of the fields. I do this and the changes appear in the folder. However,
when I close that folder the add/removes do not remain. The folders returns
to the fields that were ther before.

How do I get the changes to stick?

Reset the current view first and try again.

Tried that- no luck. But I did discover that that folder I'm trying to
change is the "Deleted Items" folder. Maybe that is the one folder that the
view cannot be changed?
