customize shape borders

Y

Yofnik

Hello,
I have created a custom shape by combining a number of smaller,
simpler shapes, then grouping them together. I would now like to
outline my new composite shape. I am not having any luck doing this.
Is this even possible? Does any one have any tips on how to do this?

Also, I was curious if there was a way to specify a border for
individual sides of a shape. For example, if I draw a rectangle, is
there a way to put a line around the top and sides only and not the
bottom?

Thanks for your help

This is a 2nd try at this response, the 1st did not seem to post.

Yes. It is possible to create the border around your custom shape.
Presumably, the shape is too complex to merely draw a new border around it.
Likewise, creating a copy and stretching the copy doesn't create the desired
effect. So, with neither of those being desireable, a workable technique is
as follows. You will begin with a duplicate shape outline, and stretch it
vertex by vertex, easily done within a shapesheet.

Regarding the single side rectangle issue. No. You cannot do that to a
rectange shape. But, if you create a rectangle using for, separate, distinct
line segments, then each segment is unique and independent, and may be
adjusted as you desire.

Hope this helps.

Regarding the rectangle example. Are you only wanting to show the three
sides, or add a border around the three sides? Something else to consider,
if you want to preserve the fill pattern:

Select the whole grouped shape,
menu Window -> Show Shapesheet
menu Insert -> Section
and select Geometry
a blank MoveTo and LineTo will be created
set the LineTo X formula to Width*1
that will give you a line across the bottom of the shape.
A few minutes experimentation should allow you to change that to a
line across the top and lines on the sides.
