Customized Field/Report

Larry W.

I have been asked to come up with a way of showing tasks
that are due to be started but cannot because a
predecessor task (with a FS relationship)has not finished
yet. I was trying to customize a flag field to show the
pred. task has not completed yet but I'm having no luck
in defining a pred.'s status. Is there a way to do
this? Something simple would be nice.

Larry,
Something simple . . . OK, was a baseline set? If it was you can look at
the Start Variance field to determine if tasks are starting (and
finishing) as originally planned. Use the Tracking Gantt view with a
Variance table.

Does this help?

Thanks for Replying John. Yes the baseline is set and
this would give me an indication that a predecessor is
not finished or maybe something else is causing the task
to not start on time, but it really doesn't tell me that
a predecessor is not finished.

I prepare a CAM status update sheet in excel for my CAMs
to update each week since they are not proficient in
Project. Each sheet only has the tasks that belong to
them. I would need to flag the item somehow to let them
know that the predecessor, which might belong to another
CAM, is not finished yet. Maybe there is no simple
solution and I'll have to manually flag these items in
excel.

Larry,
OK, I have a better understanding of what you need. There might be a way
to do it with formulas and filters but it would take a while to figure
that out unless someone else has a ready solution. For me, the simplest
approach is a quick VBA macro which I would be happy to write for you
but I need a little bit of information. How do you presently identify
tasks for each CAM? Is your file a single file or a consolidated master
with subprojects?

If you are interested in my offer, write me direct. It will probably be
easier exchanging information.
