Customized Portfolio Analyzer views

H

Haris

Hello,

I’m working on MS Project Server 2003 in my organization and we are planning
to use the portfolio analyzer to devise a skill matrix view of the enterprise
resources. For this purpose, enterprise outline codes have been used to
define the Department, Role, Skill level in different Tools/Technologies,
Proficiency and their experience. We want to use this information to develop
a portfolio analyzer view where we can get a view of resources and their
skill levels.

The problems I’m facing right now include:

- Is it possible to obtain such a view?
- How do I import the enterprise outline codes in to “Chart Field
List†of the analyzer?
- If possible, please guide me as to how can I start off on
developing such a view

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,
Haris

If you used custom enterprise Resource outline codes to define the resource
information, these outline codes will appear automatically as dimensions in
the PivotTable Field List dialog the next time the OLAP cube rebuilds. You
can then drag these dimensions into your desired drop areas of the
PivotTable to create your custom view. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. The problem was in updating of the OLAP cube
which was set to be done manually. However, I am still unable to see the
Custom Enterprise Outline Codes that I have defined in the Enterprise Global.
I have used Outline Codes 1, 2, 3 and 30 (RBS). But I can only see the RBS
Code, rest are not there in the PivotTable even after rebuilding the cube.
Further, how can I add a filed to the "Totals" category in the PivotTable?
Since I want to see the total number of resources against each skill value.

Thank you once again.

A Haris

Dale:

Thank you for your help. I have been able to bring the custom outline code
fields into the PivotTable. I just defined the Custom outline codes again in
the enterprise global.
Also, could you please guide me about the use of the fileds under "Totals"
in the PivotTable? I want to have the total number of resources having a
particular skill. I have the 'Resource Skill' (Custom Outline code that
defines the name of the skills in a single level) outline code in the "Row
Fields" area, The 'Resources' (resource names) in the "Column Fields" Area
and the 'RBS' (Custom outline code 30 with the name of the City the branch is
in, the departments and the role of each resource) field in the "Filter
Fields" area. I don't know if its going to work this way or not. Please guide.
Looking forward to your response.

Haris

I believe your situation has been discussed in the newsgroups in the past.
I do not know of a way to create a custom formula to count the number of
objects, such as projects of resources, that meet certain criteria. Let's
invite others to share their knowledge on this subject.

Dale & Haris-

The easiest way I have found is to export to an Excel Pivot Table and use
the count, sum, etc. formulas to analyze the data.

Yes, that is what I have found also. Haris was asking for a way to do this
within a Portfolio Analyzer view, without exporting to Excel, and I do not
believe there is a way to do this. Hope this helps.
