Customized toolbar does not stick

I open Word 2008.
I click on View/Customize toolbars.
I select Reviewing (and uncheck Dock), click OK and the Reviewing Toolbar (track changes, etc.) appears.
I quit Word.
I relaunch Word.
No Reviewing Toolbar.

Suggestions?

thanks,
dave

The only practical workaround I can think of is:

Don't quit Word unless you have to.

Hi Dave -

I've been able to reproduce what you reported & will send it up the line. In
the meantime you might use Word's Help> Send Feedback feature to put a
little more oomph behind it:)

Hi Dave:

I believe this change is by design.

The Reviewing toolbar should display only if the document with focus
contains tracked changes or comments; of unless Track Changes is switched
ON.

In other words, it won't appear unless there is something in the document it
can be used for.

This is a general design change throughout the Word 2008 user interface:
many things will not appear unless the document and the selection are both
in a state where you could use them.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

In the Customize box make a New toolbar. Then click the Commands tab. Put
the commands that you want to use onto the new toolbar. That toolbar will
be persistent.

I have this problem too with the Reviewing toolbar in Word 2008 (Mac). But some commands under Review do NOT appear in the customize toolbar such as Track Changes. So adding them to the toolbar is not an option. This maybe designed in but if you want to initiate comments etc...for multiple documents having to go to customize toolbars over and over gets to be very annoying. If the review toolbar can be made to be persistent that would be a big help. There's no way to force Word to do this?

thanks

There's really no way to force it to be persistent. However, Track
Changes *is* in Customize. But rather than look for it, just drag it
from the Reviewing toolbar to somewhere more convenient. Hold down
option while dragging and it will make a copy. To drag from one toolbar
to another, the Customize Toolbars dialog must be open.

If you have problems finding anything else you need say so. Adding the
reviewing features to a different or new toolbar is absolutely an option
that *will* work. General tutorial on customizing toolbars here:
