Customized toolbars ...

Hi everyone,

I have developed customized toolbar to be used in conjuntion with a template for creating user guides. I will shortly circulate the UserGuide.dot to a number of training providers. The same training providers will also need to use the custom toolbar. What I want is to have the toolbar associated with the template and not Normal.dot. Is this possible? I'm an advanced Word user but this project has taken me so deep into templates and toolbars that I really can't see the woods for the trees anymore.

Can anyone give me any pointers.

All they need to do is to put the template in the Startup folder that Word
uses ("Tools", "Options", "File Locations" TAB). Or you can change the path
to where these "startup" templates are maintained. Word runs your
normal.dot template every time it opens which is why your toolbars, etc.
stay the same as the last time you had Word open. With this new template
being run you will always have it's toolbar available as well.

You need to save the toolbar in the template itself. That is, with the
template open, when you are creating the toolbar, you need to change the
"Save in" setting in Tools | Customize to UserGuide.dot. If you've already
created and saved the toolbar in Normal.dot, then you can use the Organizer
to move the template to UserGuide.dot. If the toolbar contains buttons for
macros, you'll need to move/copy the macros as well, and sometimes it's
necessary to do this several times for it to "take."

May I prevail upon your kindness one more ...

I am eager to use what looks like a good option: Begin a Group. There doesn't seem to be *any* information in the Word Help. What I would like to do - and what I believe this option is for(?) - is to have a button on the Toolbar called, for example, "Insert a Graphic". Clicking on the button would provide a sub-menu listing all the available (approved) graphics for the user guide in question. Am I on the right track?

No, Begin a Group inserts the dividing line between buttons that spaces them
out. What you want is a custom menu. In the Categories list on the Commands
tab of Tools | Customize, scroll down to the last entry, New Menu. After you
drag that to a toolbar, you can right-click on it and give it your desired
name. You can then add menu items to it just as you would to any other menu.

Also, as a shortcut, if what you want is to replicate the Insert | Picture |
From File / Clip Art / From Scanner or Camera, etc., menu, you can copy this
from the Insert menu by pressing Ctrl while dragging it from the menu to
your toolbar (with Customize open, of course).
