Customizing alerts in sharepoint for project

A

Aubrey

My company is trying to better utilize the sharepoint sites that are
automatically created as a Project Workspace for each project. Currently our
company is using Project but a company we have acquired uses Project Path.
Many of our account managers find it desirable because of it's blog feature.
I believe we can use the sharepoint site in much the same way without having
to keep data in two systems. When someone modifies the "blog" in project
path, the user gets an email alerting them of the change and also showing
them the contents of the modification. When I recieve an alert after someone
has modified discussions in project it simply gives me the subject line of
their post and a link. Is there a way to include the body of the post as well
in the email?

A good starting point is the WSS SDK which you can download from the
Microsoft site at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...62-C2E9-4CA3-A2A0-7D4319980011&displaylang=en

Search for a page 'Customizing the message Text for Alerts'
This details the methods used to customise Alert messages.

From the page...
You can modify the content and format of e-mail alerts about changes made to
list items in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by customizing XML files
that are installed in the Local_Drive\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\Template\1033\XML directory. These files
include NotifItem.xml, NotifListHdr.xml, NotifSiteFtr.xml, and
NotifSiteHdr.xml, each of them defining a specific part of the overall
message that is sent. Each of these files implements a subset of
Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) to construct the resulting
HTML.

Can you describe any technical consequences of using the SDK? Will it
negatively affect other PWA or MS Project functions? Will each user have to
implement this on his/her desktop?

Let me rephrase my question. Is there a way to modify the alerts that the
user or site admin can control from the client? We would rather not modify
the server installation to do this.

Thanks.
