Customizing Gant Charts

Hello,
I would like to customize my gant chart so that specific tasks have the same
colour. However if I do this manually the legend doesn't update and I cant
seem to edit the part of the legend I would want updated. So I tried to
customize as in Microsoft Project 2003 book (Step by Step, Chatfield and
Johnson, 2002, pg 74-76) And my gant chart schedule resets. Now I have found
this also happends when I add resourses to the chart, Add a row for the
Project over few (from Tools>Options>Viewtab) and many other task. Do you
have any advise on how i could correct this in the future.

What is the criterion for "that specific tasks have the same colour".
A simple formula may be efficient...
