Customizing lists in the GAL

Anyone had any experience with importing lists for the GAL in Outlook 2003?
It was done with a CSV file in 5.5. Additionally how does the drop down menu
operate once the list is imported....ie what attribute does it filter from?
Any assistance is appreciated
