I have the BCM loaded and filled with an ACT DB import. I'm interested in
how to gain OWA access, too, for my 6 recruiters. After doing all kinds of
things that did not work, I started working on views, sorts and reports.
I checked out the customizing views for Contacts, and because I have the BCM
installed, I see that I can add BCM fields from the BCM Forms, to a view of
a 'personal' Outlook Contacts folder. So you can see the BCM data on a
non-BCM Contact form. Not all the fields port between BCM and Outlook, but
the view lets you see the data. When you drag BCM contacts from the BCM to
Outlook Contacts, some data isn't visible, but it is present. And editing or
customizing the view shows you what you're missing.
You can drag all business contacts to the regular Outlook Contact folder,
then create a view that shows you Account, Account address, etc., from the
Contact folder. You can report on the biz fields for Accounts, Contacts,
and Opportunity.
This gives each recruiter or sales person a Contact DB they can view from
OWA (just looked, you can see all the Accounts I dragged into the Contacts
folder). I know it's not perfect, but it does allow one to view one's biz
contacts via OWA, which in my shop is 6 recruiters, not the whole office.
I have not yet figured out how to synch the data from the shared BCM to the
recruiters customized Outlook (maybe just select all, drag and drop, just
did that, it worked or whether not to do it all and just use the BCM
OWA-less.
But I guess if you want folks to see BCM Accounts/Contacts from OWA without
third party, you can hack it this way.
