Customizing the navigation pain?

Hi,

We are using Outlook 2003 with and Exchange 2000 backend. We use Public
Folders but I find that I prefer to use the buttons for Mail and Calendar.
When I do this it closes the Folder List view, which hides the Public
Folders. I notice that when I'm in the Mail view, which I am most of the
time, I have a Favorites Folders list at the top, how can I get the All
Public Folders to show in that list? Or is it possible to create a new
button that opens the Public Folders?

Not possible but having a separate "Public Folders" button in the Navigation
Pane has been requested quite the few times to Microsoft already. Who knows;
maybe in the next version?

The Favorite Folders is only a flat structure so it doesn't give you access
to subfolders. You can use the Shortcuts Navigation to add your own folders
though.

Wow, thank's for the quick reply. I was afraid you were going to say that.
Oh well, it was worth asking.

From what I understand Microsoft is moving away from the Public Folders
construct in favor of SharePoint so it doesn't surprise me they aren't
reacting to that feature request.

I thought of the Favorite Folders option too but wasn't sure it would be any
easier than just using the Folder List and it still doesn't let me link to
the root of Public Folders. Which limits it's usefulness in my case.

Yes, they are moving away from Public Folders but hopefully they create a
separate section for the "Public Folder replacement features" such as
SharePoint integration. I wouldn't mind a separate section for RSS feeds
either; with lots of RSS feeds, the Mail section gets crowded and RSS items
aren't emails.
