Cut and Copy commands produce error message;Cannot empty the clipb

I get the strange error message whenever I use the Cut or Copy commands. But
I click OK ... and then proceed to Paste in normal fashion. So the error
message is mostly a nuisance, but perhaps a clue to a problem I should fix.
Any suggestions ??

Running OS 10.2.8 and Excel X for Mac SR 1.

ps I am also having a problem with Word in that the Paste function is
broken; it simply will NOT paste anything ...

You didn't mention what the error message says.

Anyway, to ensure you're using the latest version of Office X, you should
download the:
Microsoft Office v. X for Mac Security Update (10.1.6)
from
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Also, make sure you run the Auto Update of Mac OS (in System Preferences).

Thanks for the response and sorry it took so long for me to get back with
you. I made a mistake in posting the query and then leaving town for two
weeks ...

I tried to put the error message in the subject line "Cannot empty
clipboard" but I guess this was not clear.

When I returned from my trip the problem surfaced with other software (
iPhoto and PhotoShop Elements ) ... no drag-and-drop ... so I knew it was not
an Office-related issue. After posting messages on the Apple boards, and not
getting any resolution, I was beginning to dispair.

Then the problem suddenly was resolved. I guess that my repeated Repair
Permissions actions or my use of Disk Warrior fixed it. Who knows ...

I have experienced behavoir like this when I was a Windows-user, but this is
my first gremlin-like experience with the Mac.

Thanks again. I will file your suggestion in my trouble-shooting file.
