Cut and paste an elliptical photo

Is it possible to cut and paste an elliptical photo onto a colored
background using Word (Office XP Professional), i.e. without the rectangular
white 'cut-out' shape showing behind the photo on the colored backing?

You can insert an oval Autoshape in Word and then select the shape, right click and use Format=>Autoshape and in the 'Colors and
Lines' choose to 'fill' the shape with your picture.

You can also set a transparent color in a graphics editing program or use the Word picture toolbar transparency tool on a graphic,
but it will change to transparent other areas of the same color in the picture.
