Cut and Paste Summary Tasks in Proj 2007 SP2

J

Jim Spiller

When using Project 2007 SP2, has anyone noticed that when you Cut (or Copy)
a Summary Task it no longer includes the subtasks when you Paste? This seems
to be a different behavior than *all* previous versions of Project... Just
wanted to confirm that it's not just me experiencing this.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

If you click the summary name, it will just copy the name. If you click the
ID number of the summary, it will highlight the whole summary and its tasks.
Copy or cut will then include them all.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

I can confirm this change of behaviour.

That's the way its worked for the last 20 years or so. Project 2007 also
worked that way. Project 2007 doesn't work like that after SP2 has been
installed.

After SP2, if you click on a summary task ID to select the entire summary
task:

1) Copy only copies the summary task to the clipboard
2) Cut only copies the summary task to the clipboard, then deletes ALL
subtasks

Is this change of behaviour by design or a fault?

If this is by design, I have to ask WHY? (and how can we find out about
changes like this?)

If this is a fault, can anyone suggest when it will be fixed?

You're both right! I tried it with a new project and selecting the summary
task, it does not highlight the dependent tasks. I would have liked to say
that if you collapse the summary and then copy/paste it works OK, but this
is not necessarily so with an older project of mine. This would appear to
be a bug - I'll put it to Microsoft to see if they have an answer.

Many thanks, Mike.

Could you let us know if you learn anything from Microsoft?
