cutting text opened with Word 2008 and pasting into InDesign CS3

Anyone know of any compatibility issues with Adobe products? Every
time I open a Word doc (from a PC) in 2008 and cut the selected text
and paste it into InDesign, it pastes as a graphic. I wondered if
there was a setting or something I was missing - ?? If I open the same
document in Word 2004, it's just fine. I also tried to save it as a
2004 doc and re-open it and still the same thing. I haven't visited
any Adobe sites yet ... thought I would start here first since it
seems it might be a Microsoft issue.

Similar problem with Dreamweaver, actually, but no one had mentioned
InDesign before--I'm seeing the same thing in CS2 here. Word did change
the information it puts on the clipboard with 2008. MS made the change,
but they claim it meets standards and so the problem is because Adobe is
doing it wrong. So yell at both of them--politely, of course, so that it
gets heard. Be sure to mention version numbers and clearly explain the
problem, just as you did here.

Please complain to MS here:

and to Adobe here:

One potential workaround--I just tested my clipboard utility. Pasting
straight from it doesn't make a difference, but that utility does gives
me the option of pasting in various formats. Using the Unformatted Text
format did work with InDesign CS2--pasting created a text box with the
text inside, just as pasting from Word 2004 did. Other clipboard
utilities may offer similar workarounds. Mine happens to be the
PasteBoard module in YouControl.

I've only toyed with this a bit but I can replicate the behavior if I copy
from Word before launching InDesign or before opening/creating a document.

As long as the InDesign file is open before I copy I can just paste or paste
into a text box without the problem - regardless of whether using the Type
tool or the Selection tool. Behavior is essentially the same regardless of
CS2 or CS3.

It seems to me that the fault lies with OS X (10.4.11 here on a G5) or with
InDesign - Word has no say in the matter. The issue involves the clipboard
and either OS X is misinterpreting the content being copied or InDesign is
choosing incorrectly from the paste choices OS X is offering. You may find
some discussion on the Adobe Forum:

Bob, a minute ago I was unable to replicate that--even when I created
the doc before copying, cmd-v still got me an image--and then it
suddenly started working right, and cmd-v created a text box with the
text inside it. Even in documents created after I copied the text. And
then it stopped again, and went back to pasting images--it might have
something to do with whether I am copying from .docx or .doc, and even
possibly font. More later, I'll try to track it down.

I have noticed that I can no longer copy and paste plain text from Word into other apps, such as Dreamweaver or Fireworks. The text comes in as a graphic in Fireworks and is ignored by Dreamweaver.

Is there any way to just copy the text, as text?
