cvs format

I am a new user of Mac and excel. I am having a problem formatting
lists to the cvs, coma delimited format. I have received zip files in
cvs format. I then copy and paste these files into excel. I then edit
the file deleting some information and rearranging the remaining
data. The remaining data I want to save back to cvs format. I click
the cvs button but the list does not save in cvs format. The zip
files are large (25,000 items) . I have worked with the complete file
and a small portion but get the same results. What am I doing wrong?

By csv button, do you mean the Format dropdown in the Save As
dialog? If not, I'm not sure what you're referring to.

XL will save as CSV if you choose SaveAs and select CSV as the file
type using the Format dropdown. XL's CSV format puts quotes around
data that has commas in it, to ensure that the comma is not
considered a separator. All other data it writes as is.

If the list doesn't save in csv format, what format *does* it save
in? For alternatives to XL's CSV format, you might check out
