Daemon stops responding, Entourage hangs for 2 minutes

I have been experiencing hangs in Entourage for the last several months.
Hard to determine how often per day it happens since I generally go through
all my email first thing in the day and then check it periodically through
the day.

By going to Activity Monitor, I can see the Database Daemon taking 1-2%
(where it normally sits close to 0%) and after a second or so it turns red
with a message beside it that it has stopped responding. If I wait 2 to 3
minutes, it will return to normal and I can resume working in Entourage;
while Entourage is hung, I can't click on anything, access any menus or even
show tooltips over buttons. Doesn't seem to correspond to syncing with
Exchange or checking pop accounts.

I have tried force quitting the Daemon and Entourage becomes responsive
again but complains with various errors so I shut it down. After a
re-launch, it's ok again.

I have placed my Main Identity in the privacy section of Spotlight. I just
recently updated Office to the latest update; this problem continues.

Entourage 11.2.5
PB G4 1.5GHz
OSX 10.4.7
768 MB RAM
Several pop accounts as well as Exchange 2003

I have had the same problem, usually once or twice a day for a few weeks
now. No beachball, just hangs and queues up any clicks with no response for
about 1-2 minutes, then resumes and cranks through the queued clicks and
keypresses. Very frustrating.

Same problem here, have also tried reindexing, reinstalling. 15" 1.67
Ghz Powerbook, Entourage 11.2.5, OSX 10.4.8. Interestingly, I cloned
my Intel iMac off this laptop and it doesn't have this problem.

Steve same problem....try this as I found this on a Mac OS Windows board...

Spotlight can be causing the problem...move the Microsoft/User Data folder
(where the Entourage database resides) into the privacy folder so that
Spotlight doesn't review on it....

Then you should notice a decrease in the beachball spinning

Try dragging the Identity folder into the Privacy window instead of using
the add (+) button.

Also try turning off Spotlight and see if that helps. Spotless is a simple
utility designed to enable and disable Spotlight content indexing of volumes
with the click of a button.
