I have no idea what happened but all the files I was working on last Friday are now either completely blank or I can't open them.

there is one in particular that is very important, an excel file, every time I try to open it it says the file might have been damaged or modified from it's original format?!?!?!

Can anyone please help???

Pull out the last known good copy from your backups. This is why Time
Machine does backups every hour. Hurry or you'll only have the toasted
version in there.
