Dangerously low in resources

When I try to open a file in Word (Microsoft Office 2000)
under Windows ME, the system hangs. Ctrl Alt Del gets rid
of word and no other application will load (including Shut
Down. The message follows: The system is dangerously low
in resources.

After turning the computer off and rebooting, all other
applications in Office 2000 (Excel, PowerPoint, etc) work
and internet access is not affected - just Word.

I have tried reinstalling from the original CD, but the
problem continues. I have been advised to wipe the hard
disk and start afresh, which I am loathe to do.

Any other suggestions?

James

I am experiencing the same problem. Everything else in
office works fine, and I have both cleaned the system and
performed multiple virus and spyware scans. What is going
on?

James:
It is likely your Normal.doc file is corrupted or
duplicated. I just fixed this problem within the last hour
or so.

Go to your start icon, then perform a search under for
files and folders named "normal". You will likely then see
at least one if not two documents called "normal" in
MSWord.

Delete the file(s)

Try to then open MS Word--it should work for you unless
you have picked up a virus, spyware or trojan.

It helps to kill your temp files and do a defrag

James,

I am having the same problem with Word 97.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office & several times and
also reinstalled Windows 98 without success. Wordpad still
works and I can print documents from that - haven't tried
revisions though?

If you get any response as to a cure for this or find one
yourself I would love to hear from you. I have posted a
couple of messages myself in the last few days but haven't
had any response. If someone does respond I'll pass
information on to you.
