.DAT data source

I have received a .DAT file to use in a Word Mail Merge (Word 97).

If I open this file into Excel 97, all the data in the cells is preceded
with a ' (single quote). Therefore, the merge doesn't work. What is the
easiest way to remove that single quote?

Also, all the data is in all caps. I would like to change this (except for
the state). Any suggestions?

I could copy into Word and use Format, Change Case, but wondered if anyone
had a slicker way to do it.

Thanks,
Debbie

I think the easiest way to do both things would be to copy the file into
Word. Use Edit>Replace to delete the single quotes and change case to get
the formatting that you want.
