my dat files open automatically with an old version of
wordperfect which i would like to delete
how can i get .dat to open with word
dat not in file extensions
tried opening and saving in word still opened next time in
wp?

Depending on your unspecified Windows (and Word) version, you should just
right-click on a dat file in Explorer, and choose Open With.. . Pick Word
and check the box to make it the default.

sorry windows 98 and word 2000 v9.0 my right click did not
give me the option to "open with" i once saw that
wordperfect had its wpp and dat files as defaults to open
but can not seem to get back there any ideas thanks

i may have found issue but do not know how to change
in folder options file types wordperfect(6.1( files is
listed saying wpd dat frm
opens with wordperfect
i need to move dat out of this grouping to have word open

Your posts would be easier to understand with some punctuation. It's not
reasonable to make others go to more effort to try to understand paragraphs
without any full stops or capital letters.
