Data Analysis Cube showing incorrect data for Baselines and Actuals

Caroline

Hi all,
I'm quite disturbed to just discover that our Project Server 2007 is
reporting totally wrong data for baseline work, baseline cost, actual
cost and actual work.
When I use a project centre view the values look correct, in data
analysis they are totally wrong!
I'm looking at a list of projects and I want to compare the actuals to
the baselines as total for the whole project (completed projects
only).
Can anyone think of a reason that the data would be wrong.

Has anyone else since a difference from project centre / MS project
data and Data Analysis Cubes?

Thanks

Caroline

Hi caroline,

firstly I would check if the cube was actually re-build. Cubes only contain
data from the last build. If the project schedule was updated and the cube
was not rebuild, it could well be that you have different data.

Additionally I would ensure that your environment is up to date in regards
to Service Packs, Infrastructure update and cumulative updates. I seem to
recall that there was an issue with Baseline updating correctly early in the
2007 live cycle, but could be mistaken.
Hope this helps

I have yet to convince my IT department to apply the cumulative
updates.
Their policy is only to apply service packs, and only if they address
known specific issues.
Is there any official Microsoft information I can present to them that
installing cumulative updates is a good idea?
(We have the infrastructure update but no cumulative updates, however
I think we do have "service pack 1")

Hi Marc.

what do you mean with re-build?
so every time there were update we should re-build our cubes?
cause i've had same problem with caroline. i have different values when i
compare between data in olap cube and data in project center.

Hi reza,

the OLAP cube only contains the data of the last build. Typically OLAP cubes
are rebuild on a daily basis, meaning that the information contained in a
cube is one day behind. some organisations only build the cubes one a week,
which would mean that the information is potentially one week behind. I would
recommend that you talk to your EPM administrator, I am sure he / she knows
how often the cubes are build.
Hope this helps

Hi,

I have similar problem with the Cube, although it shows correctly all the
details, except the Baseline Cost, which stays with 0 (NULL) value. I'm sure
I genereate the report with a correct baseline number - the default one, same
as it is in the Project. I tried to rebuild cube couple times, but it didn't
solve the problem.

Does anybody have any idea, to get this baseline available, as it's
important for the business to compare values from it to actual costs?

Many thanks,

Peter
