Data entry and protection

Hi,

I have a spreadsheet where a user needs access to all cells for simple data entry, but all the cells also need to be locked/protected against changes of formatting, formulas, etc.

Can this be done?

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi,

Do you currently have any formulas in the spreadsheet?

Cant have a need for access to all cells and need for some cells to be
locked/protected unless you have data on one worksheet and the formulas on
another

Hi Charlie,

Yes, there are formulas and formatting in the spreadsheet that should be locked/protected. Bascially, the entire spreadsheet needs to be locked against this. But all data entry in the general cells should be allowed.

We are using Excel 2000, by the way.

Thanks,

Melissa

Then you will need to lock and unlock cells as need before
protecting the worksheet. For example unlock all cells
requiring general data entry and leave the formula cells
locked. Then protect the worksheet. By doing this all
locked cells are protected. When the worksheet is protect
it will not allow formatting of any kind.

Ok

You have basically answered your own question here

The default cell protection is locked. For the cells you want data entry into,
go to Format , Cells, Protection tab and uncheck Locked.

Once you have this done, go to Tools. Protection, make sure protect sheet is
selected, choose password. hit ok
