Outlook 2003, WinXP Pro.

Every time I start up Outlook after starting the computer up (or
re-starting), I get the pop-up saying that The data file “Personal Foldersâ€
was not closed properly. The file is being checked for problem…†or
something like that.

I can move emails to different folders and delete them, but they keep coming
back when I re-open Outlook.

Also, I have a couple of appointment reminders that keep coming up no matter
what I do with them. If I click on dismiss, I get a pop-up stating “Cannot
turn off the reminder. You may be reminded again. The file C:\Documents and
Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Application
data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst could not be accessed. Data error (cyclic
redundancy check).â€

I’ve both used the “detect & repair†option under Help and tried
reinstalling Office but those didn’t fix the problem. I haven’t tried to
uninstall Office yet though…

What can I do now?????

A CRC error means that the PST file is sitting on a bad spot on your hard
drive. Open a command prompt and type:

chkdsk c: /f

You will get a message back the disk can't be locked and it will run and
next boot. However before booting, try copying the PST file somewhere.

Tried copying the file but couldn't because of the CRC. Checkdisk didn't
help either. Finally got a popup saying use the 'Inbox Repair Tool' with at
this moment appears to have worked on repairing the Outlook.pst file...

We'll see how it goes today.
