Data file did not close properly.

I have outlook 2007 (upgraded from 2003) and I keep this getting this
error almost everytime I restart outlook.

Error Text (comes up in a balloon from the system tray):
A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is
being checked for problems.
Performance might be affected while the check is in progress.

After a while another baloon pops up saying that the data file check is
complete.

Here is what I did to troubleshoot the problem:
1. I make sure that Outlook actually quits when I close the app and it
does.

2. I ran scanpst.exe against my pst file and did find 54 problems. I
told it to repair it and it did. I opened Outlook 2007 and it opened
fine - did not report any errors. However, after that, I closed
Outlook, then reopened it again and the problem reappeared. So it
sounds like Outlook is actually damaging the file.

My setup is like this: the source of the email is the exchange server.
However all the email is being delivered to a local mailbox, where it
is stored in a PST file on my local drive.

What can I do to get rid of this problem?

Are there any add-ins installed? Virus scanner that integrate with Outlook
or also a know root cause of pst-file corruption.

I don't have it installed. There is a yellow textbox on top of the list
of emails that says 'Click here to enable Instant search'.

If inbox repair tool is unable to repair it. This means that your pst file may get badly corrupted. You can try pst repair software. Stellar Phoenix pst repair software is easy to handle and provides complete recovery solution. It supports all the versions of outlook. You can download the free demo version from the site:
http://www.repair-outlook-pst.com/
In demo version you get preview 5 e-mails, 20% of contacts and calendar entries. After getting desired results then go for full version.
