data files

I had problems with a bot on my HP machine, so unplugged all hardware from
that machine and plugged it into an older Gateway machine.

The only problem I am having is with Outlook 2007, which doesn't start at all.

The problem is that on the Gateway, which is being used again, my Outlook
data files were on external drive J:, and the computer remebers that.
However, the reconnected external drive is now E:. The J: drive is a slot
for one of 4 non-attached memory cards.

When I had previously moved data files to other drives, Outlook would prompt
for a new location of the data file, but in this case, with the drive
non-existent, Outlook just says it cannot find the file and shuts down.

Rather than try to rename the E: drive to J:, I thought it would be easy to
just start up without having to do the renaming, since I have already
reconfigured all other programs to look to E: for the data.

I tried using command switches, changing the registry, and looking for ini
files to modify, all with no success.

Short of uninstalling Office and reinstalling it, what should I do.

And any advice on how I can get rid of the bot on the HP would also be
beficial.

Thanks,

Peter

Check the data files & locations via the Control Panel Mail Applet,
Or, might be better, add a new Profile, add the Data File, configure the
accounts, set it to prompt for Profile, & retest

As for the bot, whatever you define as such, maybe an online scan via
Symantec , Trend Mictro or similar

DL:
Thank you. Very helpful. I was able to add a new profile and created a new
outlook.pst data file in the default location on the internal "C" drive. I
then moved all my tasks, contacts, calendar items, etc. into the file from my
old file. Then I moved the new file into the "Mail" folder with all my other
files on the external data drive.
Crossing my fingers but everything seems to be fine.
Again, thanks for the tip.

Why did you do all that? Why didn't you simply configure the new profile to
use the PST on the external drive?

Because that is what the previous responder said I should do.

That problem is solved, but I have another problem with my data files.

Contacts do not open. When you double click on an entry in Contacts, the
item just minimizes, so it cannot be viewed or edited. I have disabled all
the add-ins, as another responder suggested, but the problem persists.

Thank you.
