Data from external data source to set properties of shapes?

Hi!

I have a network, ie. a set of nodes connected by edges. The property
of these elements, such as colour, line style, text etc is determined by
some
data stored in an Excel table. I'd like to have the network elements
properties imported from that Excel sheet, automatically.

Any pointers?
