Data from previous record displayed in current record

Hello,

I can't seem to find an answer to this question: I have
a calculated field on my form which calculates a balance
(very much like a checkbook). I need the balance from
this record to appear on the form for the next record
(like a remaining balance--beginning balance for this
next record).

Can I refer to a calculated field from a previous record
through code?, or do I have to store it in a field, then
refer to it?

If it is through code, I may need some help.
