Data Graphics and their Masters - please help!

Hello.

I seem to have got all my Shape and Data Graphic Masters in a bit of a state.

Here is my diagram:
Shape (1) : Three 'Shadowed Box' Masters with the same formatted data
graphic (2 text-callouts). Each instance has a link to (different) excel data.
(I tried to create three differently-coloured data graphics, one for each of
the Masters but changing one changes them all - so this might be relevant for
the problem I'm having, see below...)
Shape (2) : A 'document collection' shape that I have re-formatted. This
should have no data graphic applied to it, but each instance again has a link
to (different) excel data.

Last week when I was using Shape (2) it was behaving itself perfectly so
that when I dragged a data row to it, the data would display in the Shape
Data window.
I have no idea what I have done in the intervening days but when I drag a
new Shape (2) from the stencil that I have created and try to drag a data row
to it, it seems to pick up the Data Graphic formatting from Shape (1). When I
right-click on Shape (2) and 'Delete Data Graphic' it deletes it from *all*
of my shape (1)s!

I am religiously following D.Parker's book but can't figure out how I've
managed to link all these shapes and graphics together! I've tried all sorts
of things and now turn, hopefully, to some experts out there who might be
able to help please?!

Oh, and I am not a developer though I am playing around with ShapeSheets
where D.Parker says I can...!

Thanks ever so...
Kate

Actually, having looked at my diagram some more, I can simplify my probelm
to: dragging an external data row to *any* shape applies the same data
graphic to the shape; deleting or editing the data graphic affects all the
data graphics in my diagram. any ideas what I might have done wrong?

Go to Data > Display Data on Shapes and uncheck "Apply after linking data to
shapes".
