Data loss during attempted transfer to new computer

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: pop

I am in the process of moving my data from a powerbook g4 running OS X 10.4.1 with entourage 2004 as my email program to a new Macbook pro running OS X 10.5. I experienced repeated lock ups when I tried to transfer data all at once by firewire migration. When I tried to move the data program by program all my emails and addresses have vanished and on both computers Entourage looks unused - no data except an email; "Welcome to Microsoft Entourage"
I do have recent backups by the backup program on the powerbook but I don't want to lose that data as well. How can I safely retrieve the data from my backup?

Your Entourage data is not stored with the applications. It's stored
"~/Documents/Microsoft User Data" where " ~ " is your home folder.

Copy that to the same location on your new machine and Entourage should
recognize it.

Hope this helps!

I am still trying to solve this problem and can use some more help. Here is an update of where I am with it:

I have found a file on the new computer at Macintosh HD/Users/gwyndafjones.noindex that has 5.54 GB in it. Within it at Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main Identity that has 2.74 GB. This seems very promising but when I try to use the entourage setup assistant to pick up this data this happens:

I get the "Welcome to Entourage" box that gives me 3 choices from which I pick "Import from a previous version of Entourage" I then click the right arrow and get:

"Which application do you want to import from?" I click "Entourage 2004" and then right arrow and get:

"Select an Identity" However, lower in the box under "Identity Name" it says "No Entourage 2004 identities found"

Below that it says "To select an identity in another location click Browse" and there is a Browse button which I click. Another box comes up where I can highlight the files I just found but when I highlight any that seem to make sense and click open the box goes away and nothing new appears in the place of "No Entourage 2004 identities found" Also the right arrow is dim and will not click.

Am I onto something? If so, how do I make it work?

You can't import from the same version. Just move the file to the correct
location in your Documents folder.

You can move either the entire Microsoft User Data folder or just the
Identity folder. If you have not used Entourage just move the entire
Microsoft User Data folder.

If you have used Entourage and want to merge them. Rename the Main Identity
from above to Previous Main Identity in the Finder. Move this Identity to
the Microsoft User Data folder --> Office 2004 Identities folder. Now
Entourage will be able to open both Identities. Since your newest Identity
probably doesn't have much. Export from it to the previous Identity. Delete
when finished and rename "previous main" to "main".

How to manually move your data from one version to another:
