Am trying to download office updates but keeping getting a message asking to
access "data1.msi installation file. I put my Office Professional Edition
2003 CDROM in the drive but it doesn't seem to contain this file. I am unable
to download any office updates as a result. Can anyone help?

Hi, Mike,

DATA1.MSI is from a previous version of an Office family product. You can
look in the Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet to see what's
installed, then provide that CD (or CDs) when prompted.

Susan,

The only Office product showing up in Control Panel is Office 2000 SR-1
Premium and Active Sync. Should I remove SR-1? I have the Office 2003
Profesional edition CD but it doesn't have the data.msi file on it.

The only Office program I see in Control Panel is Office 2000 SR-1 Premium.
This was an old version before I upgraded to Office 2003 Professional. I
don't have the Office 2000 CD anymore. Should I delete teh SR-1 program?

Well, in order to uninstall Office 2000, you usually need the original
CD...that would be best.

What you can do, however, is run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to
remove references to Office 2000, and then Officeupdate won't see it there
any longer. This won't remove whatever files from Office 2000 may still be
on your system, but it will resolve the Office Update issue.
