I am unable to access a file through my floppy disc on drive a; When I try to
open it is says ' WORD FAILED READING FROM THIS FILE.PLEASE RESTORE THE
NETWORK CONNECTION OR REPLACE THE FLOPPY DISK AND RETRY.

The other option I have is as an AVAILABLE FILE under DOCUMENT RECOVERY
(last saved by user). When I try to open it, it provides the same message
This file is extremely important to me and I have looked after this floppy
disc very well so I really do not think it can be damaged. Does anyone know
any way around it. Thanks.

Despite the fact that Word allows it, you should never use Word to open a
file stored on removable media. Use Windows Explorer to copy it to your hard
drive, then open it using Word. This has to do with the way that Word
creates temporary files. There isn't enough space for the need temporary
files on the floppy diskette. Even when you can open a file that's on a
floppy, the file often ends up being corrupted.

Bottom line: use a floppy for taking the file from one computer to another.
But, don't open the file until you've copied it to your hard drive.
